There is a lot of misinformation out there that I see leading people astray in their fitness journey and I’m here to set the record straight so that you can feel confident, empowered & knowledgeable about your body.
Here’s 3 fitness myths I commonly see:
👎 If you’re not sore after a workout you didn’t work hard enough
👎 You need to drink 8 glasses of water a day
👎 The more you sweat = the more fat you burned
Myth 1: If you’re not sore after a workout you didn’t work hard enough
The myth goes… you crush a really tough workout and you’re thinking to yourself “I am going to be so sore tomorrow.” You wake up and there is zero soreness in your bod. Immediately you begin thinking that you must not have worked hard enough or challenged yourself since you’re still able to walk – what gives? Don’t overthink it, girlie. Your body is SMART and adapts. Remember when you first started working out and the soreness level was extreme? That’s because it was new to you and your muscles. Over time your body learns how to recover and becomes efficient at it. How cool is that? Our bodies are always working FOR us and finding the best way to navigate changes. So, regardless of your soreness level you can still know that you are reaping rewards, even if it doesn’t feel like it.
Myth #2: You need to drink 8 glasses of water a day
I know you’ve heard this from someone at least one time in your life and I’m going against the grain here in saying that you actually don’t need that much water. In fact, it can be harmful to your health. Don’t get me wrong – you do need to hydrate PROPERLY. You can actually drink yourself into dehydration and give yourself hyponatremia. Signs of this are nausea, muscle cramps, weakness/fatigue, clear urine, and seizures. Big yikes! The key to proper hydration is salting your food, and checking your pee to access where you’re at. I have an entire blog post about this that you can check out here.
My favorite salt is THIS one.
Myth #3: The more you sweat = the more fat burned
Sweat is your body’s response to exercise and is a natural way for your bodies to cool itself down during a workout (even if it doesn’t always feel like it.) 🥵 Sweat is water loss, not fat loss. The amount that you sweat has nothing to do with how fit you are and everything to do with your genetics. No need to compare your sweat spot to someone else – remember, this is YOUR journey.
That’s just 3 out of MANY – so if this is something you want me to keep doing let me know by sliding into my DM’s on Instagram (@actionjacquelyn) and telling me you liked this blog post!
