“Today is the day!” you might be saying to yourself about starting a new workout regimen. Then about a week later, you all of a sudden have a million things to do that inhibits you from working out, and somehow you convince yourself to do the other “stuff” that just came up instead – like buy a birthday card at target, or just get a spray tan instead – you look 10lbs lighter with a tan right? I’ve been there…
Why do we do this? Why do we break our commitment to ourselves? A commitment that we know for A FACT that will make us feel good, look good, and even think more clearly. Maybe it’s the fear of failure – that somehow this 1 hour workout won’t really get you to your goal and you’d rather try a shortcut. Just remember, that nothing worth having comes easy. So since you are reading this, below are my 7 Magical tips I tell myself everyday to keep me focused. Here we go…
1. SET GOALS – PUBLICLY: Text them to a friend, or a significant other so that you have someone you have to face. List 3 goals of yours with a specific start and end date.
2. EAT BREAKFAST: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day so keep it clean, very minimal carbs, and lots of water first thing in the morning. I start with hot water and lemon, then I eat. It rehydrates me from the night, and flushes my system before eating anything. Then I take my vitamins, then I eat.
3. ROUTINE: Let nothing – I repeat – NOTHING – break that appointment you have with you yourself.
4. SLEEP: sleeping 7-8 hours a night will help you think clearly, and most importantly will keep you steered away from weird food cravings. Whenever I skimp on sleep I crave super unhealthy foods – but that’s just my brain complaining that it’s tired. So instead I know this and sleep instead of giving in and heading to 7/11!
5. SAY “NO” to the little voice in your head whispering to blow off your workout. That voice knows you better than anyone and can talk you out of anything. Don’t listen!
6. PUT YOURSELF FIRST: Most women put themselves last after their husbands, boyfriends, kids, etc. Put yourself first and rememebr that by taking care of yourself your giving your loved ones the best gift of all – an energetic wife, a confident girlfriend, a positive friend, or a clear-thinking mom.
7. GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK: If life gets in the way, that’s ok. Just jump back in your routine as soon as you can. Know that you can still obtain your goals by working out 3-4x a week. It doesn’t need to be everyday.
